Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) For Skin Rejuvenation and Hair Restoration
How does this procedure work for skin rejuvenation?
After drawing a small amount of blood, we place the drawn blood in a sterile tube, which is centrifuged to separate the different components of the blood (red and white cells) where the Plasma now contains a high concentrate of platelets, which is called Platelet Rich in Plasma (PRP). This PRP is injected back into your skin and acts as stimulants to your own damaged skin cells, supporting collagen production which is stimulated over 2-3weeks to naturally reduce or eliminate lines, folds and wrinkles, and skin starts repairing itself and produces more collagen. PRP injections are showing promising results in the treatment of acne scars.
What to expect after the treatment?
Side effects in general are minimal, there might be some redness, swelling, slight bruising. These side effects typically disappear within a few days after the treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Patients may need several treatments depending on their skin type. Some may require additional treatments based on the goals that they are looking to achieve. The only way to determine how many treatments you will need is by consulting our Medical Staff.
PRP for Hair Restoration
How Does PRP Therapy Work for hair loss?
After a patient’s blood has been drawn, it is then centrifuged in order to separate the platelet rich plasma which contains essential proteins and growth factors that stimulate natural hair growth. Patient will receive local anesthetics to make the treatment as painless as possible. The scalp will then be injected in a grid pattern in the treatment area. The growth factors in the form of platelets have been shown to generate new hair growth, thicken thinned out hair, and make hair grow thicker and healthier. If the hair follicles or hair roots are healthy, the growth of the hair is healthy. Hair follicles survive on the nourishment they get from blood supply.
How many treatments do I need?
While each patient’s treatment needs are unique, it is recommended to have at least 3 to 4 treatments timed at intervals of 4 weeks each. After the initial 4 sessions, we may ask you to come in for follow-up treatments at 6 months and then 12 months.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are practically nonexistent because the body does not reject its own blood.
Procedures are performed by Dr. Barry Cohen, Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with great interest in cosmetic surgery. Procedures conducted in Rockville MD, and McLean, VA.
